Studio Etiquette

In addition to the usual etiquette expected in any situation where groups of people gather, there are also several guidelines specific to yoga classes we'd like you to observe. They are meant to make your experience and that of your fellow students more pleasant and focused. We call this Studio Etiquette.

* Arrive for class on time. This means leave enough time to sign in, pay if you need to, roll out your mat, and get ready for class.  Please use the time before class to quiet down, stretch, meditate and become attuned to your yogic frame of mind.  Late arrivals are disruptive to the class flow.  Students that arrive more than five (5) minutes after the class start time will not be allowed to enter the class.

* If you do arrive after the scheduled class start time, please enter the studio quietly and set up your mat near the door or the back of the room.

* Out of respect for the practice space, students must take their shoes off before entering the studios. Place shoes under the benches out of the hallway traffic.

* Silence cell phones as you walk into Studio 108.  Do not use cell phones in class, studios or hallways.

* The stomach should be empty. Allow 3-4 hours after a heavy meal, 1-2 hours after a light one.

* If someone else is looking for space for their mat, and you have some, offer it. People are shy about asking.

* If you walk about during class, please do not step on other people's mats.

* Please do not wear any perfume, cologne or aftershave. Just like natural body odors, these artificial odors will be intensified by your practice. Some students who come to the studio are VERY sensitive to chemicals. Please help them.

* Do not leave during Savasana (Final Relaxation). This is extremely disruptive to everyone else who is being still and silent. If you must leave early, please inform the teacher before class that you need to leave early, then make sure you allow enough time to put your belongings away, get dressed, and to be out the door before the start of the group Savasana.

* Put all props you've taken off the shelves back in their proper place after class. If you've taken a blanket, please help out the next student by folding it & placing it neatly away.

Thank you for helping us create a beautiful practice space for everyone to enjoy!
